LEARNIG OBJECTIVES: 1. Understand what our leisure time is for. 2. Learn to distinguish between leisure and quasi-leisure.

The Future will belong not only to the educated man, but to the man who is educated to use his leisure wisely.

Use it or lose it

Hello, guys!

My name is Andrei Shcheglov and today we're going to talk about leisure time.

Whether in school or at work, our time is more or less scheduled and it is quite clear to us what we are up to. We are taught to study and told exactly what to do and how to do it at work. Yet no one tells us what to do in our free time. No one tells us or educates us about how to spend our leisure time. Is leisure time different from entertainment?

Have you ever thought about how we spend our free time? Do we waste it watching serials and scrolling through social networks, or do we use it for the greater good - to improve ourselves mentally, physically, spiritually, or culturally?

Leisure time should be planned in the same way that we plan our work and studies. By your goals, it is necessary to find an appropriate activity. It can be socializing, sports, yoga, meditation, reading classical literature, listening to classical music, learning a foreign language, watching a good movie, painting, photography, etc.

Who we are is determined by how we spend our leisure time.

Many people mistakenly believe that watching another episode of a meaningless serial or surfing TikTok is a rest from work or study. Numerous studies have shown that this kind of spending time takes away energy and degrades cognitive function.

Let me use the terminology and the materials of Andrei Olegovich Baumeister's lecture to distinguish leisure time from quasi-leisure time.
